Becton Dickinson Expands in Hungary

2025. 12. 17.

American medical technology giant Becton Dickinson (BD) is expanding its Hungarian operations by introducing new service and manufacturing functions.

BD is set to build a sterilization facility at its site in the industrial park of Környe, near Tatabánya, western Hungary, which has been operating for more than fifteen years.

Supported by the HIPA Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency, the EUR 42.2 million investment puts Hungary in a unique position in BD’s production network, as it has no sterilization capacity in the Eastern Central European region yet.

At its Környe site, BD has so far been manufacturing pre-fillable syringes alongside immunology and cell biology research instruments and reagents. The new investment is primarily aimed at the sterilization of locally manufactured products.

As part of the project, BD will further expand its vocational training and university cooperation programs and has also committed to joining HIPA’s supplier development program. The investment, which will create at 100 new jobs, was the subject of strong internal competition within the corporate group, including subsidiaries in 4 countries.

BD was founded in 1897, it has operations in 61 countries and employs approximately 72,000 people worldwide, nearly 1,400 in Hungary.

HIPA was established in 2014 as a national investment promotion organisation, governed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The agency’s most important task is to provide professional assistance to foreign and Hungarian companies wishing to invest in Hungary. Between 1 January 2014 and 31 December 2024, HIPA guided 2,200 projects in value of EUR 59.2 billion to create almost 170,000 new jobs.
