2026. 03. 06.

Danish-based Xellia Pharmaceuticals is investing €70.85 million in Szigetszentmiklós, further strengthening Hungary's role in the European healthcare and antibiotic supply chain. The development aims to create a modern, automated pharmaceutical manufacturing plant and will create 91 new high value-added jobs.

Headquartered in Copenhagen, Xellia Pharmaceuticals is a specialty pharmaceutical company focused on producing anti-infective medicines and providing critical care therapies. It operates three state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in Denmark, Hungary and China, as well as R&D centers in Norway.

The €70.85 million investment will establish a high-tech, automated pharmaceutical manufacturing plant where the company will produce products based on antibiotic active ingredients classified as critical by the European Union and the WHO. Production will take place using specialized drying and packaging technologies.

As part of the development, warehouse capacity, utility systems and modern office infrastructure will also be built to support modern, high-precision manufacturing processes.

The company is a market leader in anti-infective medicines and serves around 500 pharmaceutical partners worldwide.

Between 2014 and 2025, with the support of HIPA, a total of 36 positive decisions were made on projects related to the pharmaceutical industry, representing a total volume of approximately €737 million. Approximately 1,100 jobs will be created thanks to large investment projects, and more than 5,800 jobs have been preserved with the help of projects involved in the VNT and Factory Rescue programs.
