SCHOTT’s Continued Expansion Further Strengthens Hungary’s Strategic Role in the Pharmaceutical Industry

The foundation stone for SCHOTT’s latest production facility in Hungary was laid in a ceremony held in Lukácsháza. The cleanroom-equipped unit will manufacture primary pharmaceutical packaging materials – including glass ampoules, vials, and cartridges – in a cutting-edge production environment. The investment is part of a three-project development package worth nearly EUR 244 million.

SCHOTT Hungary Kft. is a leading manufacturer of pharmaceutical glass packaging in Hungary. Operating in Lukácsháza for 32 years, the company has become the SCHOTT Group’s largest pharmaceutical production site globally. Headquartered in Mainz, Germany, the company is owned by the Carl Zeiss Foundation.

SCHOTT has been present in Hungary since 1993 and has continuously expanded its operations with the active support of HIPA. The latest developments will create 272 new jobs, adding to the company’s current workforce of nearly 800 employees. Today, the foundation stone was laid in Lukácsháza for a cleanroom production hall, which forms part of a broader investment program totaling nearly EUR 244 million across three projects.

This reinvestment further reinforces Hungary’s strategic position in pharmaceutical manufacturing, especially in light of recent global health challenges that have highlighted the importance of reliable and resilient supply chains.

Between 2014 and 2024, 34 medical technology investments have been implemented in Hungary with HIPA’s support, totaling over HUF 230 billion in value and creating more than 4,100 new jobs. SCHOTT’s latest investment is a testament to this dynamic development.
