Japanese Nissin Foods to Build Second Factory in Hungary

2025. 02. 28.

Japanese instant noodle giant Nissin Foods is expanding its operations in Kecskemét with a new production facility.

The Tokyo-based company, manufacturing products of iconic brands, such as Smack and Soba, is investing approximately EUR 100 million to establish its second factory in Hungary. The development will take place on a site exceeding 170,000 square meters in Kecskemét, where the company inaugurated its first greenfield investment in 2017.

Nissin Foods’ Hungarian operation have seen continuous growth over the past years, with 12 million euros invested in 2021 and another 45 million euros in 2022 to expand capacity, enhance efficiency and broaden the product portfolio. However, as the demand for Nissin Foods’ products sees constant growth in Europe, the existing factory will be reaching its production capacity limits. This prompted the decision to build a new manufacturing unit, which will also include warehousing and logistics facilities, further strengthening Nissin Foods’ commitment to the country.

The Japanese multinational corporation will continue to rely primarily on Hungarian suppliers for the operation of the new plant, maintaining Hungary as its only production base in Europe. The investment was secured amid strong international competition. Facilitated by HIPA, the project will create approximately 100 new jobs.

Nissin Foods has already provided employment for 500 people. Its Kecskemét facility supplies products to 35 countries, with 90% of its output destined for export.

The company was founded in 1948 and employs around 16,500 people worldwide. According to the latest data, its annual revenue is close to EUR 4.5 billion. Its Hungarian subsidiary, Nissin Foods Kft., has been producing Nissin products in Kecskemét since 2004.

Japanese firms are among the most active members of the investment community in Hungary. Between 2014 and 2024, a total of 72 investment projects involving Japanese companies received positive decisions with the support of HIPA, representing a total volume of over HUF 644 billion. The Government has provided nearly HUF 73 billion in support for these projects. Thanks to these strategic investments, approximately 5,200 new jobs will be created, while VNT projects have helped preserve 19,600 jobs.
