India-based automotive supplier Motherson is expanding its activities in Hungary with a series of investments, including a research and development program and the establishment of a regional services center.

Motherson’s EUR 54 million Hungarian R&D project deals with AI-based sensors and advanced visual systems integrated into rear-view mirrors. The investment is set to create 55 new jobs for automotive product development professionals, who will work, among others, on wide-angle Head-Up Display (HUD) solutions for trucks and commercial vehicles. Hungarian universities are also involved in the project, and the related patents will be registered in Hungary.

In a separate investment, Motherson is setting up a regional services center (SSC) to support factories across the Eastern part of Europe with financial, engineering, procurement, IT, and other services. The EUR 8.076 million project will create 99 new jobs.

The group, which has been operating in Hungary since 2009, is also developing its extensive local production network. Its latest EUR 33.3 million investment expands manufacturing and logistics capacity in four local plants to supply the Hungarian factory of BMW and Mercedes-Benz with rear-view mirrors and other components.

The total volume of the three investments is EUR 95.4 million, and together they will create 154 jobs for highly qualified employees. All three projects are supported by HIPA Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency.

Founded in 1975 and known as a top automotive supplier, Motherson is a globally diversified manufacturer, offering full system solutions to customers in automotive and other industries. Its segments include polymer products, vision systems, lighting & electronics, and precision metal products. The group employs almost 200,000 people worldwide, 3,500 of whom in Hungary.

HIPA was established in 2014 as a national investment promotion organisation, governed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The agency’s most important task is to provide professional assistance to foreign and Hungarian companies wishing to invest in Hungary. Between 1 January 2014 and 31 December 2025, HIPA guided 2,305 projects in value of more than EUR 66 billion to create close to 187,000 new jobs.
