An EUR 140 million investment is in focus in Nestlé's production centre in Bük, which supplies pet food to over 50 countries around the world. With this development, the factory's capacity will be increased by an additional 30%, at the same time creating 160 new jobs, which will soon make the plant into one of the biggest production units in the western region of Hungary.
Following the multi-phase capacity-expansion projects executed between 2010 and 2019, the current investment will be implemented on a new 24-ha greenfield area, in the direct vicinity of the existing 13-ha site. Capacity building for the production of around 50 thousand tons of superior cat food is also among the plans.
The new production line will be fully automated, enabling the plant in Bük to use some further 40 robots alongside those 50 already installed. The new plant will cover an area of 33,000 square metres, and, besides the production lines, it will include the building of a warehouse for finished goods. The project also encompasses the provision of a water treatment facility, a boiler room as well as other service buildings and adjoining roads.
After this expansion, the plant in Bük is envisaged to be able to produce some 5 million items a day, mostly building on the use of ingredients from the domestic market. As a result of the development programme, vast amounts of pet food will be ready to be dispatched from Hungary to other countries of Europe as well as North Africa, the Far and the Middle East, Australia and New Zealand, filling the cargo area of over 70 trucks every day.
